One of the leading trenchless technology organisations in North America, CCI, has welcomed a new Managing Director.
The new representative, who brings more than 30 years’ industry experience, will oversee the company’s deliver of award winning technical services to the pipeline, oil and gas and municipal infrastructure sectors, including engineering solutions and construction management.
CCI and Associates Inc. is a leading expert in horizontal directional drilling (HDD), open-cut and microtunnelling methods. Since 2004, the company has established itself as a driving force in the continued advancement of trenchless pipeline systems, specifically, employing proven methods for tackling difficult river crossings.
The company is pleased to have welcomed Neil Smith as the company’s new Managing Director, who has more than 30 years’ experience leading international HDD contracting companies. Based in the company’s Houston, US office, his role will be to further develop the company’s engineering, procurement and construction capabilities for specialised projects.
Mr Smith graduated, with Honors, with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Manchester in 1983. He is a Chartered Engineer and a member of the Institution of Civil Engineers.
He brings to CCI and its clients 30 years’ HDD experience in complex, long and large diameter crossings, using steel, high-density polyethylene and flexible polyvinyl chloride pipe. Mr Smith has completed projects at environmentally sensitive sites, in rural and congested urban areas, for shore landings and offshore in open waters.
He has been instrumental in enabling the advancement of trenchless technology to benefit the industry and enable optimum project solutions.
Before assuming executive management roles, Mr Smith gained experience in the HDD sector as a project engineer, site manager, project manager and general manager. His accomplishments include building world class companies, delivering many challenging and significant projects – several of which have been recognised with industry awards – and the development of niche businesses in marine based HDD crossings, including shore approaches and water-to-water crossings.
He has won multiple awards for his work with trenchless technology groups. In years past, Mr Smith has been active in trade organisations and served as President of the Directional Crossing Contractors Association.
Since 2004, CCI has provided services to the North America’s oil and gas, and municipal infrastructure industries, specialising in the design, construction and maintenance of trenchless crossings, which are typically the highest risk part of a pipeline project. The company has had 100 per cent success rate and more than 14 consecutive years ensuring crossings are sound by taking a 360° approach to every project.
CCI’s multidisciplinary team, which focuses on design, construction, environmental and regulatory approvals, includes: engineers, geologists, geotechnical specialists, construction experts, foresters, biologists, project managers, writers, geomatics and geographic information system specialists.
