JV secures Canadian microtunnelling contract

Microtunnelling and tunnelling expert BESSAC has been awarded a CA$184 million (US$140 million) contract in Vancouver, Canada.

BESSAC and its joint venture (JV) partner Pomerleau were awarded the contract by Metro Vancouver for the construction of a new outfall pipeline from the Annacis Island Wastewater Treatment Plant into the Fraser River.

The scope of work includes the construction of 16 and 7 m diameter, 40 m deep shafts inside the treatment plant, as well as 200 and 580 m long, 4.2 m inside diameter segment-lined tunnels.

The JV will also construct a river riser in the Fraser River, a 280 m long diffuser buried in the river’s bed with a diameter of 2.5 m and a new water control structure connected to an existing one.

The construction of the project will start in fall 2019 and will last until 2024.
