HDD guidance draft opens for public comment

A major US federal agency has opened its draft horizontal directional drilling (HDD) guidance document for comment.

In October 2018, the US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission’s (FERC) Office of Energy Projects (OEP) released a draft of Guidance for Horizontal Directional Drill Monitoring, Inadvertent Return Response, and Contingency Plans (HDD Plan Guidance).

The document aims to help industry professionals improve the quality and consistency of their HDD plans and increase the efficiency and effectiveness of the commission’s environmental review.

A public comment period has opened, with the OEP requesting input and suggestions for modifications to the draft HDD Plan Guidance.

It welcomes feedback from federal and state agencies, environmental consultants, inspectors, the natural gas industry, construction contractors, and other interested parties with special expertise in preparation of HDD monitoring and contingency plans associated with natural gas projects.

The comment period will close on 28 December 2018.
