A Canada-based international oil powerhouse has awarded a drilling and directional services contract to Canada’s largest drilling rig contractor.
Under the contract, Precision Drilling’s Rig 379 will be delivered to Calima Energy’s prospective fields in northeast British Columbia, Canada by mid-December 2018 to deliver one vertical and two horizontal wells.
The vertical well will calibrate stratigraphy and collect core samples, while horizontal wells will be drilled in 2,500 m sections, stimulated and tested.
Precision’s successful track record with other drills was a key factor in its selection.
“Precision has built its reputation in North America’s unconventional basins by consistently providing high performance, high value services to customers such as Calima,” said Precision CEO Kevin Neveu.
“We are pleased to be working with Calima with Rig 379 and our integrated directional drilling services, a combination we believe will deliver maximum efficiency for Calima in its Montney drilling program.
“Precision is excited to be chosen by Calima as the drilling and directional drilling contractor for their inaugural drilling program in their Montney acreage and we look forward to being a part of their long term success.”
Calima Managing Director Alan Stein said the company was delighted to secure the rig.
“The track record of Precision Rig 379 was an important part of the rig selection process,” he said.
“The operational schedule remains on track to start drilling before the end of the year.”
