The Trenchless Technology Center (TTC) at Louisiana Tech University has received strong industry support following its call to action for the global advancement of the industry.
TTC has committed to advancing the underground infrastructure industry, calling on industry leaders across the globe to build on the accomplishments of the past 30 years and attract the awareness of policy and decision makers.
The commitment comprises three initiatives: the development of a world-class TTC Underground Infrastructure Campus (UIC), the construction of the Barbera Auger Boring Training and Research Facility (BUIRT) and the establishment of the Living Lab partnership with the City of Ruston Department of Public Works.
The industry is rising to the occasion and, so far, the initiative has achieved sponsorships totalling US$170,000 of its US$300,000 goal – including sponsors from China and Japan.
The BUIRT facility
The new facility will be available for research, development and training for the entire Trenchless Technology industry, including TTC Specialty Schools.
It will also be available for international equipment and material manufacturers, as well as technology providers for research and technology validation, replacing the facility previously used for the auger boring school.
A climate-controlled enclosure will facilitate year-round use, as well as an advanced smart sound system to enhance the learning experience.
This project will be on a fast track for the inauguration ceremony during the next TTC Auger Boring School taking place on 12-16 November 2018.
