The Mayor of Bogota, Colombia, has announced plans to invest US$1.1 billion in aqueduct and sewage projects in the coming three years, making it an excellent time to visit the country and assess the possibility of the emerging trenchless market.
Trenchless Technology has been used in Colombia for close to two decades. According to the president of the Colombian Institute for Subterranean Infrastructure Technologies and Techniques (CISTT) Luis Guillermo Maldonado, “Colombia has a large workforce trained in trenchless technologies, and has been able to support project works in other countries, not only in South America, but also in Europe, Asia and Africa.”
In addition to its local market, the strategic location of Colombia in the center of Latin America, gives operators working in the country unique access to the broader South American market.
International companies including Herrenknecht, Akkerman, Ditch Witch, American Augers, Hammer Head, Robbins, Vermeer, Prokasro, and Pure Technologies, have recognized the potential in the regional market, with some of the companies being active in Colombia for more than 10 years. Large contractors, including Bessac and Soletanche Bachy, have also carried out successful works in Latin America.
Other companies and individuals active in the Colombian market include designers Santiago Villanueva and Juan Fernando Pareja; consultant Gómez Cajiao; and AON, Palmieri group, Aries International, Scandinavian No Dig, Sekisui, Nippon Koei, Samit, O-Tek international, Moldequipo and SWP Americas.
A number of ISTT Affiliated Societies have already thrown their support behind the Trenchless World Congress. This includes the German Society for Trenchless Technology (GSTT), the Iberian Society for Trenchless Technology (iBSTT), and the China Society of Geology – Trenchless Technology Committee (CSTT).
At the Congress, various no-dig technology experts from around the world will share their knowledge and research, and resolve concerns regarding this underground construction technique. Confirmed speakers are: Dr Tom Iseley (Trenchless Technology Centre), Jens Hölterhoff (GSTT), Bernard Theron (Bessac), Ian Ramsay (UKSTT), Trisha Sun (WMN Consultants, Singapore), and more. Attending companies will also take the opportunity to exhibit their latest equipment and materials used to carry out trenchless works.
For these and more reasons, Colombia is your best choice this year to boost your trenchless technology business, learn more about this construction methodology and tour a beautiful country that has a lot to show. Medellín and Colombia will surprise you!
