On 15–17 March, representatives of 50 companies, coming from 15 different countries, gathered to present an exhibition of the latest innovations in Trenchless Technology, held at the Abu Dhabi Officers Club.
Over the same period, delegates attended an international conference, which facilitated dialogue between regional municipalities, utility administrators, contractors and consultants operating in the region.
On the first morning a keynote address on ‘Developments in trenchless technology’ was delivered by ISTT Chairman Dec Downey. This was followed by presentations on a number of topics, including underwater Trenchless Technology, microtunnelling separation systems in the Middle East, and innovations in HDD and pipeline condition assessment.
Following two days of technical presentations, delegates were invited to a site demonstration hosted by Drillcon, one of the largest contractors in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Article continues below…Abu Dhabi proved to be an excellent location for the event, as it is a hub of trenchless innovation in the region. The city is currently undertaking an ambitious expansion of its existing infrastructure, known as Plan Abu Dhabi 2030, and many projects will rely upon trenchless techniques to minimise environmental damage and disruption to residents.
“Abu Dhabi was a perfect host as an example of a location where huge volumes of traffic cannot afford to be held up further by construction work,” said Event Director Paul Harwood.
Trenchless Middle East 2010 was supported by the Abu Dhabi Sewerage Services Company, the ISTT and the Contractors Association.
