The project focuses on piping installed in 1974 and 1985 to convey sewage to Sugar Land’s North Wastewater Treatment Plant. Also included is the rehabilitation of about 80 manholes.

“We are utilising a trenchless rehabilitation approach, one of the least disruptive methods to rehabilitate a sewer pipe,” said Director of Utilities SuEllen Staggs.

“Our alternative would be would to replace the pipe, a far more expensive and disruptive option.”

A construction contract with Spiniello Companies specifies the use of sliplining and cured-in-place pipe (CIPP) liner to rehabilitate the sewer lines.

To rehabilitate the existing sewer lines without interruption to wastewater service, sewage will be diverted to a temporary 18 inch bypass line, expected to be utilised for at least four months.
