As the current system cannot cope with the growing demand, work is also being done to reline sewer pipes in Hampstead Norreys, West Berkshire. Holes in the pipe currently mean water seeps into the network making it inadequate to cope with the flow and has caused flooding.

Sewers will also be increased in size in Hildens Drive, City Road, Longworth Avenue and Foxcombe Drive, as part of the Elm Project, enabling the pipes to cope with 95 tonnes more sewage.

Thames Water’s Programme Delivery Manager Andrew Popple said "This is essential work to improve the sewer network in West Berkshire and to make it fit for the future.”

Work on both projects is due to commence 9 January 2012 and is expected to be completed in November 2012.
