The construction team, including the Municipal Commissioner and the Chief Director of Rites surveyed the route and decided upon microtunnelling to ensure a 6 kilometre stretch from Parkside Road to Sodepur and a 7 kilometer stretch between Dunlop Bridge and Tallah pumping station do not interrupt traffic on BT Road.

The city receives approximately 260 million gallons of filtered water daily through the 80 year old main pipeline which has several leaks. The second pipeline has a diameter of 1.63 metres and will be laid in an effort to prevent supply disruptions in the hotter months. Rites said that the project is expected to be completed by the end of 2010.
