Hinton in Western Canada is the location for an innovative eco-industrial park, Innovista Industrial Park, where Trenchless Technology is assisting the park in building green credentials. Eco-industrial parks differ from traditional designs by reducing industrial water consumption and leveraging use of renewable energy sources.Going green with Trenchless Technology
An important component of the park is the Clearford Clarifier – a sewage treatment tank. Designed by Clearford Industries Inc. the Small Bore Sewer (SBS) uses Trenchless Technology for installing mains and laterals. The SBS uses fused-joint high density polyethylene (HDPE) for its collection mains, laterals and clean-out access points. Clearford Industries said that Trenchless Technology minimises subsurface disruption by preserving surface and subsurface materials. The company said that in many cases, environmental construction considerations such as silt screens, dewatering containment and clay trench seals can be eliminated when the lines are installed using HDD. Hinton Mayor Glenn Taylor said “This is the biggest most innovative project our small western community has ever seen. The economic and environmental benefits are tangible – we are now Canada’s leader in making sustainable industrial development a reality.”
