The German Society for Trenchless Technology (GSTT) was founded 20 years ago and campaigns to support this technology in other countries as well, through trade fairs, conferences and lectures.
As a special highlight for the water industry, the International No-Dig Berlin 2011 is co-hosting an event with WASSER Berlin International. The GSTT would like to cordially invite you to attend the world’s leading trade fair for pipeline construction.
Exhibitors are invited to present their products and participate in this headline event for the international water industry. A two-day conference program will provide specialists with unique opportunities to exchange experiences and information on Trenchless Technology.
The GSTT welcomes the growing number of trenchless construction projects. In Germany, there is an increasing sense of awareness where environmentally friendly and economic construction methods are concerned. As the capital of Trenchless Technology, Berlin occupies a pioneering role, and together with other cities and municipalities is showing the way forward.

Throughout Germany, Trenchless Technology is used for 10 per cent of all new pipeline installations and 50 per cent of all pipeline rehabilitation, and the trend is on the rise. Among individual utility companies such as Berliner Wasserbetriebe (BWB) 50 per cent of new pipeline installations on pipeline networks and pressure pipelines already employ Trenchless Technology.
Berlin is an important location to demonstrate Trenchless Technology, and the 25 year success story of trenchless construction methods offers visible proof.
By 2008, Berlin had more than 750 km of collective and individual pipeline connections built with Trenchless Technology, saving a total of €64 million in construction costs and enabling this money to be invested in other construction projects. Excavation of 2.31 million m of soil was not required. The following measures were also averted:
- Breaking open and restoring road surfaces totalling1.26 million sq m
- Approximately 91,000 HGV trips transporting loads across the city
- Extracting 204 million cubic m of groundwater (close to the equivalent of Berlin’s annual water supply).
Make use of the opportunity to take part in the Building Site Day (4 May 2011). At International No-Dig Berlin 2011 the focus is also on practical aspects. By taking part in organised tours at selected locations outside the exhibition grounds you can find out how the latest trenchless construction methods are proving their practical worth.
Trenchless construction methods represent groundbreaking technology and a modern concept that is economically efficient and environmentally sound. Exchange views with international specialists and establish valuable links with providers of products and services. Visitors to the International No-Dig Berlin 2011 can also attend the trade fair WASSER Berlin International.
Visitors to the event will discover all the latest developments in Trenchless Technology, as well as find out about the state-of-the-art innovations in nearly all areas of the water industry. In conjunction with wat, the Specialist Water Conference, and a comprehensive conference program, the trade fair represents one of the world’s leading meeting places for the water industry. Topics will range from climate change, pipelines, pumps and fittings to geothermal systems.
By organising a host of innovations and improvements, the organisers have laid the foundation for exhibitors and trade visitors to establish easier contact and business links, thus providing visitors with a good number of reasons to attend No-Dig and WASSER Berlin International next May.
Last but not least: welcome to Berlin
Situated at the heart of Europe, Berlin has a population of 3.4 million. As Germany’s capital city, Berlin serves as a gateway between the European Union and Central or Eastern Europe markets.
As the seat of Germany’s Federal Government, Berlin has 136 foreign embassies, more than 170 museums and art galleries with a truly impressive array of cultural events.
The GSTT looks forward to welcoming exhibitors, delegates and visitors from around the world to this important international event.
