National Grid, a UK-based international energy company, has asked Murphy Pipelines to complete the next phase of a program to transport gas from the Norwegian-owned Orman Lange North Sea gas field, using auger bore techniques.
The multi-million dollar project is a 24 km, 1,200 mm diameter, carbon steel pipeline between the above ground installations at Easington on the coast and Paull, on the banks of the Humber River in East Yorkshire. Murphy will negotiate the construction of the pipeline, together with above ground modifications and connections at both ends.
The Easington Pipeline is expected to be complete by 1 October 2010, when the pipeline will operate up to a maximum operating pressure of 85 barg.
Murphy Pipelines was recently awarded a 2010 CEEQUAL Award (an assessment scheme for civil engineering and public realm projects) for a gas pipeline installation project in West London. The project involved 28 auger bores, eight pipe jacks and a segmentally-lined TBM-driven tunnel. Murphy was awarded for its successful environmental and sustainability performance.
