International visitors to the conference included the Chairman of the Bulgarian Society for Trenchless Technology, Stefan Zhelyazkov, and Insituform’s Head of Development in Poland, Mariusz Iwanejko. Mr Zhelyazkov gave a televised interview about the Conference.
Annual seminars and conferences dedicated to Trenchless Technology have been held in Odessa, the administrative centre of the Odessa province located in southern Ukraine, since 2004.
Of the 58,000 kilometres of sewer pipelines and manifolds in the Ukraine, it is estimated that one third are in extremely bad condition. Trenchless Technology is recognised as necessary to improve water, sewage and gas pipelines. In 2004, there were four or five HDD machines in Ukraine; the number is now estimated to exceed 50.
The Chairman of the Conference’s Technical Committee was Professor Meneilyuk Ph.D, Member of the Ukrainian Academy of Construction and head of the department ‘Technologies and Mechanisation of Construction’ at the Odessa State Academy of Construction and Architecture. Professor Meneilyuk gave a presentation on the modern classification of trenchless methods.

Highlights of the Conference included a speech by Prokopchuk, Chairman of UAMTT (Odessa) on the perspectives of the construction and repair of engineering networks in the Ukraine and the role of the UAMTT in the introduction of modern technologies in Ukraine.
Following a full day of seminars and socialising day two of the conference was a field visit to an exhibition of trenchless equipment at the Odessa Construction and Finishing Machinery Plant – the national manufacturer of Trenchless Technology.
