Bursting the impossible
For five years, the City of Atlanta had a problem: an ageing, 18 inch diameter sewer pipe that had been partially exposed due to erosion caused by a nearby creek. The plan called for a dramatic upsize – to 28 inch diameter HDPE pipe – because decades of urban growth had rendered the original pipe’s capacity seriously insufficient.

A water authority in Campinas, Brazil, has purchased trenchless machinery to replace and enlarge existing drinking water pipelines.
